How did you get sucked into the lighting rabbit hole: I went to the University of Colorado for the Acoustic Design program within Architectural Engineering. The main professor moved on while I was there, and the program dissolved. I was told, to graduate, I needed to pick another discipline. So they said, “What about Lighting?” So I found my way into the Illuminating Engineering program at CU. And the rest is history.

What light fixture would you be and why: If I were a light fixture, I would be the downlight-only pendant that hangs over a two person table at a dimly-lit restaurant that sets the mood for sharing stories and laughs. I enjoy being around to hear people’s stories about life whether hilarious, moving, or ordinary. Those pendants get to listen to a lot of stories.

Strangest thing you have ever seen: One time, I was driving down a two-lane road on a hot summer day to a family friend’s cabin in the-middle-of-nowhere, Wisconsin, windows rolled down and all. There was no civilization to be seen for miles. As I was driving along, I squinted my eyes to see what seemed to be a person walking down the yellow double stripes in the middle of the road. Something just didn’t seem right. As I drove closer, and the images became clearer, this man walking down the middle of the road was wearing a sweatshirt on top and NOTHING else on the bottom. No shoes, no pants, no nothing, but a sweatshirt. As I passed this man by, I looked in the rear-view mirror just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, yep, it was true. My friends did give me a hard time since the one piece of clothing the man did have on was a Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt. Making all Dallas Cowboy fans around the world so proud… I hope he found wherever he was going.

Other than trying to better the lighting world, I enjoy spending my time: I enjoy spending time with my family, drinking a good mocha, hanging out with friends, hitting up the best local restaurant/spot of small and big towns across the US, and driving through the mountains.
