MEOW WOLF CONVERGENCE STATION
Meow Wolf's Convergence Station is an unforgettable, immersive, and transformational art experience in Denver offering an underlying narrative that furthers Meow Wolf's mission to invigorate art communities, as well as make art more accessible and appealing to all. At 8,361 sq m (90,000 sq ft) and 4-storeys high, it is Meow Wolf’s largest and most ambitious project to date and houses over 70 unique multimedia installations, rooms, and portals.
The exterior of the building features white fiber-cement panels illuminated by a continuous 204 m (672 ft) run of LED fixtures along the top of the façade. The intent of the lighting design was to highlight the unique façade texture, as well as capture attention from near and far.
Color Kinetics products were selected for the project due to its proprietary IntelliHue technology, which produces the best color output - including brighter pastel colors required to match Meow Wolf’s logo and higher saturation of darker colors, such as deep blue and purple.
Color Kinetics ColorGraze IntelliHue Powercore 305 mm (1 ft) and 1219 mm (4 ft) luminaires (234 pcs) surround the top of the entire building, mounted adjacent to one another using Color Kinetics architectural mounting arms, 762 mm (2.5 ft) from the illuminated surface. Power and data are supplied by Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro.
The lighting vision was designed by Kate Cullen at Cullen Lighting Studio. The project was accomplished from start to finish by Signify Certified System Integrator, Visual Interest. Luke Shubin of Visual Interest programmed and commissioned the exterior lighting system, working closely with Meow Wolf’s Senior Creative Director, Chadney Everett, to ensure every light show matched the desired look and feel for the building.
“The architectural team designed a unique almost canvas-like facade creating the perfect opportunity to illuminate the shell with a color-changing, attention-grabbing light show that gives just a glimpse of what is happening on the inside. It truly piques one's interest even if you've seen it one hundred times because of the different settings for holidays, Broncos or breast cancer awareness. Due to light pollution, all linear lighting had to come from above and forced us to get creative in our application with the undulating top. It was a detail we engineered with the contractor and structural engineer that was perfectly executed upon installation. We sold our client on the design using conceptual renderings with Color Kinetics, but it looks even better as an active facade in the Denver skyline.” - Kate Cullen

Completed in September 2021, Convergence Station has become an epic area landmark. Its façade displays ever-changing colors after dark and reflects its ethos as a space where people and art converge.
